What's the best way to make decisions
So many times, I get this question about the best way to make decisions. What a great question! When you come to think about it, there is no doubt that it's such an important skill to have in life, isn't it?
There are so many complex models that I could share with you, but over time, I've come to realise that all of them were pointless unless you first apply the one principle that I consider to be the mother of all rules. It's called the HALT rule. It's quite a simple rule, yet so powerful.
I came across this rule when I was studying marketing through Gary Halbert’s work. HALT stands for Hungry, Angry, Lonely and Tired. Gary states that you should never make a decision when you’re any of those things. That's actually the power of responding to an event as opposed to reacting to it.
You’re most probably asking now: 'So, what should I do instead?'.
Here's what Gary suggests: 'Do what I do. Write, run, walk, talk, jog, etc. But be careful who you talk with and write to. You see, it should be someone who realises that all this must be considered as "time out babble".
I trust you keep the HALT rule handy today!
PS: In my next post, I'll share with you something I find fascinating and so powerful that is hiding behind the HALT rule.
